There have been a variety of hair loss remedies over the years. Some hair loss remedies have been successful, others not, some downright silly and embarrassing. Well, after all, when people have been looking for hair loss remedies for literally several thousands years, you are going to have a few bad ideas.

Unfortunately, for most of those thousands of years there really wasn’t much you could do in terms of solving hair loss. If you were the Emperor of Rome, you had the option of using the death penalty if someone mentioned your bald spot. For the rest of the world, hairpieces and toupees were the rage.

Hairpieces and toupees were the standard bearer for hair loss remedies for decades. Remember that part about some remedies being successful and other remedies being downright embarrassing? Depending on how much money you were willing to invest the line between decent looking and passably bad was a thin one.

And who can forget some of those cool TV commercials from days gone by produced by the local toupee shop?

Now, if a person was really on a budget and wanted no frills, cheap costing hair loss remedies, then they could rub show polish on his head. Yes, shoe polish, an item that takes its place on the top shelf of downright stupid hair loss remedies. In the early 1970’s, legendary professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino employed the shoe polish defense to hide his bald spot. Unfortunately, shoe polish has a tendency to stain. And, yes, stain it did. A huge black spot appeared on Bruno’s opponent’s stomach. A pretty embarrassing situation and one of the main reasons why the shoe polish method is a poor choice in the annals of hair loss remedies.

Today, there are a variety of options of hair loss remedies, some better than others; but at least there is a variety of choices which is always a positive.
